Really Wild & Wacky!!

As promised, the Atlanta Red Bull Soapbox Race lived up to its crazy, fun crowd pleasing reputation. The weather was sunny and the crowds estimated at fourty thousand plus. The race revved up with The Red Bull Toyota smoking rubber down 10th. Street between the hay bales followed by the soapboxes. What a specktacle. Some of our favorites contestants were "Team Frank U"(Flamingoes), "Team Boobie-Do(Pinkies) and "Team Equus Vires Maximus"(Maximum Horse Power). It was a fun day and one of those where you really had to be there!

Soapbox Derby...Wild, Wacky & Crazy

The world famous Red Bull Soapbox Race is comming to Midtown!! And it's just four blocks from the Inn. This event is a blast and something you've just got to see in person. Held on August 29th., the wacky race will consist of some 50 separate soapbox teams cruising down (the 10th.Street dragstrip) adjacent to Piedmont Park. Teams garner points for not only being the fastest but also for the most outrageous soapbox vehicle, human powered, of course. So, make it a long weekend, come stay at the Inn and enjoy the race!! Fish, Fish Everywhere!!

Many of the Inn's guests make a trip to Atlanta just to see the Georgia Aquarium...and for good reason. It's the world's largest, has more than 120,000 animals, 500 diferent species and contains over 8 million gallons of water! Now, that qualifies as huge! Now, if that's not exciting enough for you, the Aquarium is currently hosting a special exhibit titled "Titanic Aquatic" featuring real artifacts recovered from the ocean floor at the scene of the disaster plus interactive displays. Composer, Neighbor, Friend!

Accolades, awards and stellar reviews punctuate the life and career of Internationally renowned composer Alvin Singleton. The list goes on and on! But we know Alvin primarily as a super-great neighbor and friend. Some guests familiar with his works are astonished to learn he lives nearby and remind us how "lucky" we are to have him as a neighbor. Monet Water Lilies

The High Museum of Art is in the second month of its exhibit, Monet Water Lilies which runs until August 23rd. The highlight of the exhibit is a 42 foot wide large scale painting of a scene of Monet's lush gardens and lily pond.Best of all, the High Museum and The Atlanta Botanical Garden have teamed up to present a "Moore and Monet" combination of both exhibits at a reduced price. Jersey Boys

The Fox Theatre sets the stage for a fantastic play reminicent of the sixties and Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. What better location than the Fox theatre! And to top it off, you can't beat the Fox Official Greeter...what a genuinely nice guy!!

Most Atlantans, and many visitors, often take in a nice evening meal just prior to the performance or perhaps a fine desert after the show. Food for thought: Consider Mitra Restaurant or Gordon Biersch Restaurant (both previously blogged). You can't go wrong with either one.

Atlanta Happenings!

The First Emperor: China's Terracotta Army is one of the greatest archeological discoveries of the last century with over 100 works and is the largest terracotta warrior figures to come to the US. Terracotta Warriors info.

The High Museum is also hosting The Louvre Exhibit featuring 91 works of art spanning over 4,000 years. Visit this exhibit at The Louvre.
